Policy and Etiquette
group and private lessons
What to Wear
Wear what is comfortable, but please be well-groomed. Oral and physical hygiene are very important. NO baseball hats or any other hat.
Shoes:
DO NOT wear flip-flops, sandals, or boots. It's best to have smooth soles rather than gym shoes. Tina will suggest places to buy ballroom dance shoes.
When coming to Tina's studio, please bring a clean pair of dance shoes or damp-wipe the bottoms of your shoes when you get there, so as not to scuff the wood floor.
Phones:
TURN OFF your cell phone. NO TEXTING.
If you are expecting a call because of a serious situation, then quickly leave the class in order to talk.
Attention to Instruction:
When the teacher is explaining something, please stop talking and listen--even if you "know it" or believe it does not pertain to you. Please allow your dance partner to get the information from the teacher rather than from you. It's OK to make mistakes; it's OK if you don't "get it" right away.
During class, feel free to ask the instructor for help. Please be considerate of the instructor's time before or after class because she might be trying to mentally prepare for another class or get ready to leave.
You and your dance partner:
Check your ego at the door and allow yourself to make mistakes or not know something. There is no competition with your partner. The couple must dance at the level of the slower person. Don't push your partner to perform at your level if you are more advanced. Cooperate and communicate. Feel good about learning new skills and discovering your artistic expression. Be patient with yourself and with your partner. Always allow yourself to find some joy in the experience.
NO videotaping or audio-recording
No food in class. No gum chewing.
Group class payment and missed days:
You may register on the first day in the Glenview class. Tina has the Park District registration forms.
You must register before the class starts, so come a few minutes early. There is no pro-rated fee or make-up for a missed class. However, if space permits, you may come to the other level and use that time to practice.
Private lesson payment and cancellations:
Cancellations must be made by 6 pm the night before.
First-time students pre-pay for the initial meeting.
Your lessons at Tina's studio:
No pets or children. You may bring children if pre-arranged.
